The global chia seeds market is experiencing robust growth in 2025, with production expected to reach approximately 135,000-140,000 metric tons, representing a 7% increase from 2024. Paraguay continues to dominate the market, accounting for over 50% of the world’s volume, with expected exports exceeding 60,000 metric tons for the 2024-2025 season—substantially higher than previous forecasts.

Despite significant increases in production, demand continues to outpace supply at the Chia Market, creating tighter conditions than anticipated at this point in the season. Prices remain at the higher end of the range since the beginning of the calendar year.

The farming area has expanded considerably for the chia seeds crop, with cultivation areas increasing by 15-20% compared to last year, reflecting farmers’ response to strong pricing and growing demand. For the 2025-2026 season, initial planting intentions in Paraguay suggest another increase in production area.

However, the market faces climate volatility (lack of rains, potential frosts) in key growing regions, which present concerns for market stability. Additionally, the impact of Bolivia’s entry into the Chinese market remains to be fully understood.
